Dear Dad,
Today I spent a lot of time choosing carefully and reading the Father's Day cards at the shopping mall. They all had a special message that in some way or another reflected how I feel about you. Yet it hit me that not a single card said what I really want to say to you.
You'll soon be 84 years old, Dad, and you and I will have had 55 Father's Days together. I haven't always been with you on Father's Day but I've always been with you in my heart. You
know, Dad, there was a time when we were separated by the generation gap(代沟). You stood on
one side of the Great Divide and I on the other.
The Father-Daughter Conflict(冲突) changed into high gear ( 档位) when you taught me to drive the old Dodge and I decided I would drive the 54 Chevy whether you liked it or not. To my
surprise, when the police officer who sent me home after you reported the Chevy stolen, you were so tolerant(宽容的) about it because I had thought that would probably be the worst night of my life.
Our relationship greatly improved when I married a man you liked, and things really turned around when we began making babies right and left. Somewhere along the line, the generation gap disappeared. I suppose I saw us and our relationship as aging together, rather like a fine wine.
But the strangest thing happened last week. I was at a stop sign and I watched as you turned the corner in your car. It didn't immediately occur to me that it was you because the man driving looked so elderly and fragile behind the wheel of that huge car. It was rather like a slap in the face delivered from out of nowhere. Perhaps I saw your age for the first time that day.
I guess what I'm trying to say, Dad, is what every son and daughter wants to say to their Dad today. Honoring a father on Father's Day is about respect and sharing and acceptance and
tolerance and giving and taking. It's about loving someone more than words can say, and it's wishing that never had to end.
I love you, Dad.
We can learn from the passage that Mary and her father .
have been getting along very well

express her gratitude to him B. tell him about their conflicts
C. say sorry for her being disappointing D. remind him of the early incident
Love, Mary

Let's do some sleep math. You lost two hours of sleep every night last week because of a big project due on Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, you slept in, getting four extra hours. On Monday morning, you were feeling so bright-eyed, and you only had one cup of coffee, instead of your us ual two. But don't be cheated by your energy: you're still carrying around a heavy load of sleepine ss, or what experts call "sleep debt" — in this case something like six hours, almost a full night's sl eep.
Sleep debt is the difference between the amount of sleep you should be getting and the amount you actually get. It's a deficit(赤字)
that grows every time we skim some extra minutes off our nightly sleep. "People accumulate(积累)sleep debt gradually without being noticed," says psychiatrist William C. Dement, founder of the Stanford University Sleep Research Centre. Studies show that such short-term lack(缺
少)of sleep leads to a foggy brain, worsened vision, and trouble remembering. Long-term effects include obesity and heart disease. A survey by the National Sleep Foundation reports that we're lo sing one hour of sleep each night — more than two full weeks of sleep each year.
The good news is that, like all debts, with some work, sleep debt can be repaid. Adding an extr a hour or two of sleep a night is the way to catch up on( 补上 ) sleep debt. For the long-term lack of sleep, take it easy for a few months to get back into a nat ural sleep pattern. Go to bed when you are tired, and allow your body to wake you in the morning (no alarm clock allowed). You may find yourself catatonic ( 有 紧 张 感的 ) in the beginning of the recovery cycle: Expect to have ten hours' shut-eye per night. As the da ys pass, however, the amount of sleeping time will gradually decrease.
So earn back that lost sleep — and follow the orders of your inner sleep needs, and you'll feel better. "When you put away sleep debt, you become superman," says Stanford's Dement, talking a bout the improved mental and physical abilities that come with being well rested.
The example of sleep math is used to show .
in what case you build up a sleep debt
why you need six hours' sleep every night
why you are full of energy even when lacking sleep
in what case you should drink coffee to keep energetic
The author begins Paragraph 2 with .
an example
a definition (定义)
an argument
a discussion
By saying the underlined sentence in the last paragraph, Dement means .
you can get enough sleep with the superman's help
you can achieve your goals with a sleep debt
you will be in a good state with enough sleep
you will be clever if you accumulate sleep debt
What might be the most suitable title for the text?
How Can You Keep Energetic?
Can You Have a Good Sleep?
What Is Sleep Debt?
Can You Catch up on Sleep Debt?
