Step 1 warming up
Free talk about the native country where English was originally spoken.
Step 2 Pre— reading Activity
Check what the Ss have known about the UK.
Step 3 Fast reading
Encourage the Ss to gather whatever information they can find.
Eg.
1. Great Britain was the name given when England and Wales were joined to Scotland.
2. In the 19th century the industrial cities built in Midlands and North England
3. The oldest port was built by Romans in the 1st century AD.
4. The oldest building begun by the Anglo-Saxons in the 1060s.
5. In the 13th century AD Wales linked to England.
6. In 1603, when England and Wales were joined to Scotland, the country was named Great Britain.
7. The full name of the UK is The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
8. The capital of the UK is London.
