Book Report----Song of Solomon
Song of Solomon is the work of Toni Morrison, a famous American writer. Song of Solomon is a Bildungsroman which describes a young black man's survival and development in the fierce cultural conflict in the United States. The novel takes the old folk legend "black people can fly" as its main line and symbolic core. Through the life experience of the youngest son of a wealthy Black family in the northern city, who travels south to search for gold, he accidentally finds the root of the family and the source of culture. It shows a gorgeous and magnificent picture of black people's survival. It tells the conflict between the new and old generations between him and his parents, the conflict that men are superior to women between the elder sisters, and the conflict between the black people in the northern cities and the black people in the southern towns. Combining modernism and realism, the novel uses imaginative and colloquial language and folk fairy tales to explain a profound human proposition: how to solve the poverty and even degeneration of spiritual life in today's increasingly developing material life.
The family history of Macon Dade in the novel goes through three generations from Dade I to Dade III from the civil war to the 1960s.
