Usually, most junior 3 students would be running, doing sit-ups or push-ups on the playground at the end of April. They would be preparing for their upcoming physical education (PE) test. The test is important because it’s worth 40 points on the senior high school entrance exam (中考).

But due to the novel coronavirus outbreak, many places like Shanghai and Zhejiang have canceled the test this

year. Many students and parents have been discussing this change.

“I feel so relaxed that I don’t need to run or skip rope (跳绳) in hot weather,” said Zhao Li, 15, a student from Shanghai. Since she has been stuck at home, Zhao’s mom has been making delicious snacks. And she’s always

sitting in front of the computer taking her online classes and watching TV on the sofa. “Honestly, I haven’t run even once and have gained some weight. It would drive me crazy to review my lessons and spend time exercising at the same time,” Zhao added.

But for Deng Zirui, a student from Hangzhou, Zhejiang, his efforts might be wasted. He has been running in the morning and doing 50 push-ups at his home every day to build his leg strength. “It’s not fair for students who have prepared carefully for the PE test when it’s canceled. My son really worked hard and wanted to gain some advantages in the coming test,” Deng’s father said.

Many students are still waiting for the Ministry of Education’s specific (具体的) instructions about the PE test. “This year, we can make some changes to meet different needs, such as canceling running to keep students safe,” said Wang Zongping, a professor at the Nanjing University of Science and Technology. “But for Chinese teenagers,

the test is a really good way to boost (增强) their immunity (免疫力), build their confidence and keep healthy habits.”

Someone believes that the man who yawns a lot is lazier than other people. This might be true. However, we know that people also yawn when they are excited or nervous. For example, Olympic runners, often yawn before a race. Why is that?

Some scientists believe that yawning makes you be able to think or notice things quickly. When you yawn, you breathe more deeply. You also stretch(舒展) the muscles（肌肉）in your face and neck. Maybe this makes you be aware of the thing around you.

Why do people laugh? Scientists say that people laugh about 17 times a day. Scientists believe that laughter is good for you. Why? For one thing, laughter is good exercise. When you laugh, you exercise many muscles in your body. Scientists say that one hundred laughs equals ten minutes of running. When you laugh, you also breathe deeply. This helps you relax. That’s good for you, too.

Why do we laugh? That is a hard question to answer. We know that people laugh more often in a group . They don’t laugh very often when they are alone. Many scientists believe that we use laughter to connect to other people. Laughter helps us be part of a group in a short time.
